Hi loves! Today I’m taking you on my recent weekend in Key West, FL. Sometimes I forget just how many places I can visit in Florida. I celebrated my best friends’ birthday and we wanted to go somewhere fun, near the water, a foodie’s heaven and landed on Key West. Now to get to Key West from South Florida there are a couple of ways. You can fly by plane or even a private plane or you can drive.
Now taking a plane ride is on the more expensive side plus there’s a connection somewhere. The MOST sensible way to get to Key West is driving. If you’re flying from out of state, fly into Fort Lauderdale or Miami (use Skyscanner to find good price flights) and then rent a car and head down. I’ll warn you it is about 3-4 hours of a drive so be prepared to do some carpool karaoke and get snacks.
We stayed on an island about 25 minutes north of Key West because one of our friend’s boyfriend lives there and said we could crash. I don’t think he realized how insane all four of us together are under a roof. Ha-Ha. But if you don’t have a hookup, Key West has some of the best resorts and hotels, but don’t forget about Airbnb’s for your weekend in Key West.
It’s a bit on the pricey side but totally worth the money. Don’t worry about driving around because you honestly walk around to most places, but Uber is great the locals know the backroads. Trust them, because it’s very busy depending on the season.
Duval Street
Have you ever been to Broadway in Nashville, well Duval Street is Key West’s version of bars, food, local shops, and live music. The infamous Fat Tuesday’s is here. You can get your refillable bottle here and drink whatever you like. My favorite for sure is the margarita and for fun just add the double shot of tequila. But you can choose classics like Miami Vice, Pina Colada’s and even try a flavor first.
You can’t walk around the street with your alcohol, but if you’re behaving properly and not being a drunk mess, the cops tend to look the other way. Always check what’s happening during your weekend in Key West because there is always an event happening. We went during Fantasy Fest, naked drunk people partying it all night long.
Give Me All The Food
Honestly, you can’t go wrong with the food here. It’s all fresh, clean, flavorful. Now, I’ll warn you every place contains seafood. So just watch out if your allergic, but they’re very accommodating. The chicken fingers, sandwiches and burgers are incredible.
There are so many options so just look at their menu and go from there. We literally just picked places and not one was bad. It’s all local food, sorry you won’t find a Bolay or Taco Bell here but enjoy the local food and try something different. All my friends tried something new and loved it. I’ll stick to my chicky nuggies and grilled chicken sandwiches.
Day Out On The Water
There is an unlimited amount of water activities to do during your weekend in Key West. You can rent a boat with a captain and just enjoy the water and tan. There’s snorkeling, parasailing, kayaking, jet skiing, etc. We took a boat out and went snorkeling with a group of people. They had alcohol on the boat, and you can drink after you are done snorkeling. You can take a boat out and just drink.
Literally the options are endless, just find what you like. There was a jet ski tour that was about 3 hours long and take you through the island and show you some celebrity homes. If you’re coming out with a group, I recommend planning ahead because your activities are booked in advance.
Key West was a dream. Having dinner on the water watching the sun set was a highlight. The locals are just sweet people, other tourists that are visiting are very friendly too. It’s overall an incredible time and trip. Plus, the four-hour drive was the best- talking, singing, sleeping, and gossiping. It’s truly a magical island, you forget the outside world and honestly not even on the phone.
It’s a great birthday trip, but honestly, I would go back but with just my girl’s where we can have fun, take the photos for the gram, get a little wasted and party. I for sure think it’s an ultimate girls trip destination.
XOXO
