Hi loves! My laser hair removal experience, was it worth it? My thoughts on the whole process. Did you know laser hair removal has become the second most common cosmetic procedure in the US!! I actually can, because I feel like all woman love to feel smooth, silky, and not stubbly or prickly. Am I right?
I’m currently in the process of getting my laser hair treatments and wanted to just share my laser hair removal experience. Unfortunately, I cannot share progress photos. The area I decided to get laser treatment on was my private area. A Brazilian treatment to be exact and the place I’m going to is SP Aesthetics, located in Wellington, Florida.
I found them on Groupon actually and bought the Groupon and decided to try it. I have been thinking about laser hair treatment for a while now and kept seeing so many ads on Groupon that I finally said “what the heck, let’s try it.” SP Aesthetics is owned by Stephanie Pantoja.
She is a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner through the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and has over 10 years of medical experience. It was very important to me to do my research first before I actually bought the Groupon. I kept looking at local salons, their reviews, staff, cleanliness, etc. until I felt it was the right fit and I was ready to do it.
The Process?
First, you should book a consultation and speak with the expert and let them know what your ultimate goal is. Most people will need a series of treatments to achieve their desire results. Laser hair removal is approved by the FDA for permanent hair reduction.
But it is based on the individual, some results may last for many years and other individuals may need maintenance treatment over time. Usually it does that about 6 sessions to see the full results, but some see results after the first treatment. Each session is spaced out between 4-6 weeks. I started my first session in May 15thand my second session June 12th.
The Preparation?
The reason in booking a consultation first is because a medical history and physical exam is performed first to make sure you’re healthy before treatments can begin. They told me to avoid sunbathing, tanning beds, waxing for about two weeks before you go in for a session each time.
You want to avoid any perfumes or deodorants that can irritant the treatment area before and after each session. They also said to avoid taking aspirin, herbal supplements due to increased risk of bleeding. Depending on the area you also want to shave a little and just leave the treatment area with a little hair.
Recovery and Risks?
The recovery process is quite simply. A little redness can occur right after treatment as well as a bit of swelling, but should be gone by 24 hours after your session. For me the first session, I did experience sensitivity but within the day it was gone. After my second session, it was an itchier feeling after but subsided after like 2-3 hours. The risks that can happen are:
- Pain
- Burns
- Blisters
- Skin Pigmentation problems
- Scarring
I didn’t have any issues, but you need to make sure where you are going, how clean the establishment is, and to do your research. I cannot STRESS that enough. Research, Research, and Research.
My Thoughts and Reaction?
During my first session, I felt completely comfortable due to the team at SP Aesthetics. At SP Aesthetics, they have two machines for laser hair removal. One feels like a rubber band hitting your skin each time. Super painful for me, I couldn’t handle it. So we tried the other machine that gives off more of a heat sensation. I was much better with this machine.
Important to do your research because some places only offer the machine that has a rubber band pain feeling. So call before you buy and ask how the pain feels. After the first laser hair removal experience, I literally saw a difference. My hair is thick and grows so fast but after my first session I only had to shave once because much hair didn’t grow much.
During my second session, I had another member of the SP Aesthetics team take care of me. Again super great client service, she read over my file and saw my settings for the first session. The second one was much easier. Mostly, because I knew what to expect. The burning didn’t hurt at all, it felt like just a little heat was on that area and that’s it. After this session, I noticed more spotting on the treatment area and my hair was a lot thinner.
Should You Do It?
To be honest, I absolutely love the process. My laser hair removal experience has been great so far. I actually want to do my armpits and legs after this treatment because I’m so happy with the results thus far. I had so much ingrown hairs on my bikini line because of the amount of shaving I did.
Now, I’m seeing a reduction in the bumps and nicks caused my shaving. I feel much smoother as well. I’m basically doing in once a month until my treatment is complete. I just did my second and have 4 more to go.
I would recommend it especially if you hate shaving and get ingrown hairs from shaving. It would make me super insecure to wear swimsuits because I felt you could see the bumps. Now I feel my confidence growing with each session.
I now feel super smooth, the bumps are slowly reducing away since the shaving has stopped and now I feel much happier that I decided to do it. The decision is YOURS to make, but just make sure you do the research to the place you’ll be using because this makes a huge impact on your laser hair removal experience. Check out for any Groupon’s in your area. If you’re thinking about doing laser hair removal let me know your thoughts or fears?
